Information Services Inc.


Information Services Inc. (ISI) was established in St. John's, Newfoundland in January 1987 to provide consulting, systems development, and microcomputer training services to the local economy. The company has also developed a number of microcomputer software packages for the local, national and international market place. ISI currently maintains its head office in St. John’s, NF with a subsidiary office in Newbury, MA, USA.

ISI now concentrates its resources and provides service in two primary areas:

First, ISI provides direct consulting and support services for systems development, design and implementation, including requirements definition and project management. This service is available for a variety of computer hardware/software platforms from microcomputer-based to mainframe-based operations. Mr. A. J. Bristow, President and Managing Director of ISI, and James A. Duggan, VP Marketing are able to offer over 60 years of experience in the Information Technology Industry in a wide range of applications and technical environments.

Second, ISI has concentrated on the development and marketing of WriteAway and WriteAway 2000, a microcomputer based packaged software product that is used successfully throughout North America and other English speaking countries. WriteAway (the original DOS version) was jointly developed by ISI and The Institute on Applied Technology at the Children's Hospital, Boston. WriteAway 2000, the new Windows version, was solely developed by ISI and is a specialized word processor that provides empowerment to the physically and mentally challenged, the learning disabled and has proven useful in the fight against illiteracy. The product can, however, be used in any environment to facilitate written communication and literacy. WriteAway 2000 is currently used effectively at hundreds of sites across North America and Australia.

For educators and parents who want to enhance the English language reading and writing capabilities of their students and children, WriteAway 2000 is a software tool that engages and motivates while achieving learning objectives with ease and flexibility. WriteAway 2000 is a self-contained toolkit with multiple features that can be adapted to each learner's changing needs.

WriteAway 2000 has involved ISI in many new assistive technologies including word prediction, speech synthesization and alternatives to keyboard entry such as the use of switch devices and voice recognition.
